Workshops and Training

The Research Computing Center (RCC) conducts interactive workshops on a variety of topics relevant to research computing. Past workshop topics have included introductory, intermediate, and advanced seminars on programming languages; data management tools and best practices; and sessions focused on using Midway and other RCC resources. Unless otherwise noted, all of our workshops are in-person due to their hands-on nature.

Midway2

Midway2 is the newest high-performance computing platform at the Univseristy of Chicago.

Outreach

The Research Computing Center (RCC) is committed to fostering a wider understanding of high-performance computing. The RCC participates in numerous events designed to bring that understanding to the general public.

Data Management

Increasingly, funding agencies, such as the National Institute of Health, are requiring detailed data management and sharing plans that assure data is available to other researchers in forms organized to facilitate reuse and reproducibility while protecting the security of restricted data.

Data Sharing Services

The Research Computing Center (RCC) provides a centralized infrastructure where all resources are accessible by multiple users simultaneously. This makes RCC’s storage system ideal for sharing data among research group members. Additionally, data access and restriction levels can be put in place on an extremely granular level.

New Faculty Program

The Research Computing Center (RCC) provides free access to research computing infrastructure to all faculty members of the University of Chicago. If you are an incoming or prospective faculty member of the University of Chicago, the RCC can help make your transition as seamless as possible by providing access to our high-performance computing and data storage resources in advance of your arrival on campus.

Consultant Partnership Program

If the needs of your project or group exceed what can be provided by our basic level of service, you may benefit from the Consultant Partnership Program. The Research Computing Center (RCC) not only provides access to computing resources but also to computational scientists and application development consulting services.

Cluster Partnership Program

In addition to providing free access to shared compute resources, the Research Computing Center (RCC) enables researchers to purchase dedicated compute and storage resources through the Cluster Partnership Program (CPP). Faculty participating in this program can augment the Midway3 and MidwayR compute clusters with high-performance, professionally managed compute nodes and storage dedicated exclusively to their research group.

Support and Services

The RCC offers a comprehensive suite of programs and services. We use a bottom-up approach to supporting research as faculty needs drive the RCC’s programs and services.
