Mind Bytes 2025

 

Mind Bytes is a celebration of scholarship and research computing. It is a unique event that brings together faculty, staff, and students from every corner of the University who share an interest in high-end computing, data, scientific visualization, and the use of computation and data to advance what is considered state of the art in their fields.

Mind Bytes 2025 will be at Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E 59th St, Chicago, IL 60637, on April 23rd, 2025 starting at noon.

Tentative program:

12-1pm: Lunch, poster viewing, demos, and research highlights

1-1:15pm: Welcome & opening remarks

1:15-2pm: Keynote address by Joseph Olive (DARPA Program Manager of the Global Autonomous Language Exploration (GALE) program)

2-3pm: Faculty Lightning Talks

• “Dynamic development of a sensory system in the zebrafish” by Professor Victoria Prince, Organismal Biology and Anatomy

•“Can AI weather models predict out-of-distribution gray swan tropical cyclones?” by Professor Dorian Abbot, Geophysical Sciences

•“AI Adoption in a Non-Monetized Space: Archaeological Remote Sensing” by Professor Mehrnoush Soroush, Ancient Near Eastern Studies

•“Experience and Experimentation: Studying Water and Soil Management at the Ancient City of Petra, Jordan” by Professor Sarah Newman, Anthropology and Social Sciences

3:20-4:10: Fireside chat: Navigating the AI Frontier: Innovations and Regulations with Ed Walters, Lecturer in Law, Chief Strategy Officer of vLex and the co-founder of Fastcase
