The Research Computing Center (RCC) provides access to high-end computing resources, data services, as well as visualization resources, access to software, workshops, one-on-one consulting with computational scientist domain experts. Midway is the RCC's compute ecosystem of high-end computing and storage resources accessible to faculty, researchers and students at UChicago. This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the computational resources and services available at the RCC and will cover topics such as basic Linux, file transfer, and creating and running jobs. It will also cover the allocation of accounts, the various training options, and introduce the secure data enclave (SDE) for sensitive research data.
Objectives:
Learners will be able to understand the different computing systems available at the RCC
Learners will be able to run Linux commands on Midway
Learners will be able to run jobs interactively and submit batch jobs in the queue
Learners will be able to understand the various policies regarding computing resources usage and storage
Learners will be able to transfer files between Midway and their local computer or to remote sites
Learners will learn about the different programs and services available at RCC (grant support, cluster partnership program, etc.)

Prerequisites: None. Attendees should bring a laptop if they would like to participate in the hands-on exercises.
