Introduction to quantum computing
Quantum computing is expected to be the next major breakthrough in next-generation technology. The Research Computing Center (RCC) provides assistance to access quantum computing resources and training resources. This hands-on workshop will introduce the quantum computational resources and services available through the RCC and will cover topics such as:
-
A brief introduction to problems where quantum computing can be used
-
How to write and run a quantum program on a quantum device
Objectives:
-
Attendees will be able to get an overview of the potential quantum advantage
-
Learners will be able to define quantum gates, quantum circuits and quantum algorithm
-
Attendees will be able to create a free account on IBM Quantum, connect to IBM Cloud
-
Learners will be able to submit a job to a real quantum device using their free account
-
Attendees will learn about circuits, shots in quantum simulation, and the difference between different kind of quantum simulation (ideal, shot noise, and noisy simulation)
Level: Introductory
No prior knowledge in quantum computing is required. Some prior knowledge in python (e.g., experience in running simple python scripts or jupyter notebook) and linux could be useful but not a prerequisite. Participants must bring their own laptop to participate in the hands-on session.
